Received last night from the RFU – all clubs in affected areas please take note
The RFU is waiting for information from government regarding what the latest Tier 4 measures mean for sport and in particular for those due to be participating in rugby training or friendly fixtures tomorrow.
In the absence of clear guidance, given the latest news is that the new strain of the virus is 70% more transmissible and that you should act like you have the infection, the RFU recommends that if you are in a Tier 4 area, clubs should consider cancelling tomorrow’s training/fixture. Due to the large number of adults required to run training sessions, the most sensible option would be to postpone tomorrow’s activity until government clarity has been received on the new measures.
Areas going into Tier 4 lockdown are:
· Kent
· Buckinghamshire
· Berkshire
· Surrey (excluding Waverley)
· The boroughs of Gosport, Havant, Portsmouth, Rother and Hastings
· All 32 London boroughs and the city of London.
· Bedford
· Central Bedfordshire
· Milton Keynes
· Luton
· Peterborough
· Hertfordshire
· Essex (excluding Colchester, Uttlesford and Tendring)
, Government has now updated its advice here
This means rugby activity can continue for U18s.
However, as many parents, volunteers and children in Tier 4 areas will naturally be concerned, we suggest activities for tomorrow are cancelled.
