East Midlands Rugby Union are delighted to announce the signing of former Tonga international Soane Tonga’uiha as Seniors Forwards Head Coach.
Soane Tonga’uiha is a Tongan-born, New Zealand-educated, rugby union player and coach. He currently plays for Chinnor and internationally for Tonga. His position of choice is loose-head prop, although he sometimes plays at tight-head.
As Forwards Coach, Tonga’uiha completes the EMRU coaching team with Director of Rugby, Viliami Ma’asi and Backs Coach, Adam Barnard.
He is best known for his time with Northampton Saints, where he made 184 appearances during a seven-year spell at Franklin’s Gardens.
He also played age group rugby for New Zealand, before going on to win 18 caps for his native Tonga, for whom he represented at the 2007, 2011 and 2015 World Cups, and previous clubs also include Auckland, Bedford, Racing Metro, Oyonnax, Bristol and Ampthill.
